At Ohio State a thousand years ago, I loaded my schedule with
elective courses in political science and economics because I knew America’s
economy was in large part controlled by politics. Another reason: OSU was
especially strong in those two areas of study. So:
I’m more than pleased to have discovered—a few days
ago—www.OpenSecrets.org, the website of the Center for Responsive Politics.
At this writing, CRP reports that “both spending and lobbying
and the number of active lobbyists has declined.” Also:
CRP reports include “Cybersecurity, Privacy Issues Spurred Lobbying
Even Before NSA Programs Revealed.” And:
CRP reports the “Most Popular Congressional Investments” by
members of the House and Senate.”
The top five in 2011: General
Electric, Procter & Gamble, Microsoft, Bank of America, and Exxon Mobil.
What’s more:
CRP reports the source of political
contributions made to each member of the House and Senate.
