San Joaquin Fever Is Spreading

The fatal brain disease is spreading through the Southwest U.S., reports Patricia Leigh Brown in the New York Times.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention calls it “the silent epidemic.” So far, there’s no cure. The spread has been affecting 20,000 persons yearly, mostly in Southern California and Arizona.
